Nutrition & Aging Think Tank

On May 20-21, 2014, international leaders in nutrition and aging research participated in the first Think Tank organized by Agri-food for Healthy Aging (A-HA) and the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA). Researchers and key stakeholders, including health and nutrition professionals from the long-term care (LTC) sector, discussed and prioritized the key determinants of food intake and identified innovative strategies to address these targets.

By partnering with international experts, research in this much-needed area will be accelerated and the results will have a significant impact on the health and quality of life of residents, and the quality of care in both Canadian and international LTC homes.

Next Steps:

Nutrition & Aging Think Tank participants continue to advance this initiative and have formed the I-DINE Consortium (International-Dining in Nursing homes Experts).

The results of the Think Tank have been published in the February 2015 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association (Keller et al. JAMDA. 2015;16:93-100), and a white paper has also been published by the Nordric arm of I-DINE (N-DINE) (currently available in Danish only).
