Project Date

2013 – 2015

A case study has been conducted in a long-term care home that has moved from prescriptive dining (assigned seating, dining times), to flexible dining based on principles of the Eden alternative. The mealtime is focused on providing relational care to optimize the experience for residents. Researchers are observing staff training and also mealtime processes to better understand how relational care is being implemented, and the challenges that arise during this process. The next phase of this project will be to develop a relational eating assistance training program for staff, family and volunteers.
