Guiding Stars program featured in National Post, Dr. Alison Duncan
(October 11, 2011) The Guiding Stars program, an initiative that rates foods based on their nutritional value, was featured in the National Post. A-HA researcher Alison Duncan is involved in bringing the program to Canadian grocery stores. Read the full article.

Dr. Alison Duncan involved in new Canadian grocery store initiative
(September 16, 2011) A-HA researcher Dr. Alison Duncan is part of a panel of scientific advisors who are helping to initiate the Guiding Stars program in Canadian grocery stores. The program provides a star rating for foods available to consumers, letting them know which products may be more nutritious than others while they shop. Dr. Lisa Duizer receives funding for new lab equipment
(September 1, 2011) It was announced today that A-HA researcher, Dr. Lisa Duizer received a grant of $124,000 from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation. The money will go towards equipment in her sensory evaluation laboratory. She is currently investigating ways to tailor pureed foods to the sensory and nutritional needs of older adults.

RIA announces new Long Term Care research facility
(August 29, 2011) The Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) is involved in the development of a new Long Term Care home which will facilitate research on site. The new facility will be the first of its kind, and is using a 'teaching hospital' approach to put research into practice, and improve the health and well-being of older adults.

Seminar: Nutrition and Aging in the Community
(July 7, 2011) Dr. Julie Locher from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) presented her research involving social and environmental factors that affect eating behaviours and nutrition-related health outcomes in older adults living in American communities. The event was well attended and broadcast to 23 Ontario Telehealth Network (OTN) sites.

A-HA in The Buzz Newsletter
(June 21, 2011) A-HA appeared in a June edition of The Buzz Newsletter, which discusses the partnership between the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), and the University of Guelph. The article highlighted A-HA's knowledge translation initiatives that were made possible with funding support from Agri-Food and Rural Link - a program stemming from the OMAFRA-UofG partnership.

A-HA Researchers presenting at CNS
(May 2011) A-HA researchers Dr. Heather Keller and Dr. Lisa Duizer will be presenting at this year's Canadian Nutrition Society (CNS) annual conference, held at the University of Guelph. Dr. Keller will chair a symposium reviewing results from Phase 1 of the Canadian Malnutrition Task Force study looking at malnutrition in hospitals. Dr. Lisa Duizer will discuss how consumers can still enjoy foods even if the sodium content is reduced.

Webinar: Making the Most of Mealtimes
(April 5, 2011) Today the Seniors Health Research Transfer Network (SHRTN) Nutrition Community of Practice hosted a webinar titled, 'Making the Most of Mealtimes'. Over 200 people registered for the event, where A-HA research scientists Dr. Heather Keller presented findings from her research program looking at the psychosocial dynamics of mealtime in a retirement/LTC environment. Manon Loubert shared information on the mealtime experience at Residence St. Louis, which is part of Bruyere Continuing Care.

Dr. Heather Keller in UofG Research Magazine
(March 8, 2011) A-HA research scientists, Dr. Heather Keller appeared in the Winter 2011 issue of University of Guelph's Research Magazine. She discussed her work investigating ways to improve nutrition and mealtime experiences for older adults. Dr. Keller also noted the work being done by other A-HA researchers.
