Agri-food for Healthy Aging (A-HA)
The Agri-food for Healthy Aging (A-HA) initiative is a new collaborative research group created through the efforts of the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA), the University of Waterloo, the University of Guelph and MaRS Landing.
A-HA aims to be the market leader on researching the innovative use of food to improve the health and quality of life for the aging population. A-HA's research scientists hold expertise in the areas of applied nutrition and dietetics, nutritional sciences, food science and human health.
Current A-HA research includes projects examining sensory ability and Alzheimer's Disease, the development of a mealtime satisfaction questionnaire for residents living in retirement and long-term care settings, evaluation of a mealtime social interaction measure, and strategies to enrich commonly consumed foods in retirement/long-term care settings with omega-3 fatty acids. To learn more about people and projects, visit the specific pages on the website, or join the A-HA mailing list.
Contact program manager, Jessica Demeter at jdemeter@ria.uwaterloo.ca or 519-571-1873 Ext 126 to receive A-HA research updates and event information.
Tier 1 Canada Research Chairs in Aging, Food and HealthThe University of Guelph invites applications for two Tier 1 Canada Research Chairs (one SSHRC- or CIHR-based; one NSERC-based) that will sit at the apex of three of the core research themes in its Strategic Research Plan: food, health promotion and individual/family well-being. Collectively, these strategic leadership positions will work with and contribute to the research programs of several existing initiatives at the University of Guelph to provide a holistic, integrated understanding of food and human health, with an emphasis on aging and quality of life. These two CRCs will provide a focal and unifying point among many colleges at the University of Guelph, and it is essential that the two positions are complementary, with the successful candidates having a history of interdisciplinary activities. |
